Throughout the year, but especially over the holidays, I receive lots of inquiries commissioning poems, verses, song lyrics, and more to be hand-rendered in calligraphy as gifts for loved ones. Many times, men will come to me with ideas for their wives or girlfriends – so romantic! (Keep it up, guys. 😉 )
The paper that I use for these custom pieces is usually parchment or linen, which I keep in-house – vellum works, too. I offer letter size, 8×10, or smaller 5×7 and 4×6 sizes for quotes, and will cut the paper to the desired measurements. Then you are free to mat and frame it as you choose.
TIP: Remember, though, that hand-lettering is always larger in size than a printed font – you should bear in mind that the length of a typewritten piece in Word will likely be doubled. For example, a poem that fits on a full page in 12 pt font, with lines of varying length, will probably take 2 pages to write out. It’s important to note this when selecting a size, if you don’t want to end up with a piece that takes an entire wall in your living room (and breaks the bank)! I am always available for a consultation and recommendations before we begin your project.
Hope this helps when preparing your special gift!
