We’ve probably all heard the saying “You can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey out of the girl”, and to a large extent, it’s true. Although Stephen and I have been living in Florida for 3.75 years now (and love the climate, quality of life and the friends we’ve made), the nearly 30 years I spent in New Jersey remain with me.
I always think it’s unfortunate that people stepping off the plane at Newark Airport see the Turnpike traffic, road construction and industrial buildings and assume that’s all there is in New Jersey. My memories begin with childhood summers spent with my grandparents at Belmar beach and boardwalk, and trips to more ice cream stores than we could count. I remember my beautiful campus at The College of New Jersey where I was an undergraduate, the town of Princeton and surrounding areas, and later our years in Montville, historic Morristown and hikes at Jockey Hollow in the fall. Those are the images that depict New Jersey for me.
I think this is a sweet idea. What about you? What state (or country for that matter) has your heart? Leave us a comment!
